Plastic is NOT fantastic
-
We have been learning about plastic pollution and how it affects the ocean and its creatures. We wrote a letter to someone in our whānau to encourage them to use less plastic.
Dear Awa,
Did you know plastic lasts a long time? Experts say that every piece of plastic ever made still exists. More than 10 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in the ocean every year!
Can I show you a few facts about the harm plastic does to our environment? Turtles think plastic bags are jellyfish and they eat them. Dolphins get caught in fishing nets that are floating in the ocean, so let’s work together to look after Papatuanuku for our future.
Our class is taking part in the Young Ocean Explorers challenge. We are picking up one piece of plastic each day. We all should use metal bottles instead of plastic bottles, metal pegs instead of plastic pegs, and paper bags instead of plastic bags.
Together we can all make a difference to be kaitiaki altogether!
